Thank you for your interest in the post of Heritage Recording Officer with Historic Environment Scotland, based at John Sinclair House in Edinburgh. This is a fixed term appointment up until 31 March 2025.

As a Heritage Recording Officer, you will contribute towards HES’s understanding of Scotland’s historic built environment through investigation, research and survey.

You will act as an in-the-field investigator and surveyor within the Buildings team of Historic Environment Scotland’s Heritage Recording Service. You will be one of a team of heritage professionals who investigate and record the buildings, archaeology and historic sites of Scotland. You will carry out high-quality photographic and measured surveys in the field, sometimes in challenging working conditions and including some lone working where appropriate. You will also contribute to the investigation and understanding of the wide variety of sites being documented. In-office, you will administer your work efficiently, and carry out the post-production and archiving of your surveys. You will also work on the researching and production of high-quality information for both the National Record of the Historic Environment and in support of organisational outcomes. You should expect to spend a lot of your working time making fieldwork visits throughout Scotland, so travel and overnight stays will be a regular requirement of this post.
