The post of Buildings at Risk Project Officer will work as an essential part of the BARR Project Team as they identify, monitor, promote, and seek opportunities for Scotland’s At-Risk heritage. This role will focus on the planning and delivery of BARR data-gathering work in the field, and outreach activities arising from this work.

The post-holder will participate in fieldwork to assess the condition of the historic built environment across Scotland. They will also communicate effectively with local authorities, community groups, and individuals to source information for the Register. The post-holder will expect to travel regularly throughout Scotland with fieldwork necessitating work in remote locations and overnight stays.

The successful candidate will also lead BARR engagement activities - disseminating our results and raising awareness of our work. They will also contribute to the development and promotion of advice and guidance which will help both the public and colleagues in the historic environment sector to unlock barriers to progress with buildings on the Register, and support the wider organisational aim of sustainable reuse of historic buildings.

The role will also support and input into exploration of how the Buildings at Risk Register can inform the other work and functions of HES, including activity related to traditional skills, community empowerment, asset transfer and right to buy legislation.
